Are you in a hurry and want to save time by quickly brushing your teeth in the shower? You might regret it – you’ll find out why here.

Surprisingly, many people brush their teeth in the shower. The reason for this? Mainly to save time and kill two birds with one stone by washing their body and teeth simultaneously. However, this strategy is not the best in terms of hygiene.

The shower is a paradise for bacteria
It is often mistakenly assumed that the bathroom, especially the shower, is a bacteria-free environment. If you think you wash there every day and the shower walls are cleaned with water daily, it’s hard to believe that this room could be full of bacteria. But bathrooms and showers are a paradise for bacteria. Consider it’s a warm and humid environment – nothing could be better for them.

If you leave your toothbrush in the shower, bacteria can grow. That’s according to Apartment Therapy, a magazine that specializes in home decorating and organization tips:

Brushing your teeth in an environment where you typically clean your body makes you more susceptible to viruses, fungi and mould that compromise your immune system.

Contrary to what you might think, brushing your teeth in the shower isn’t environmentally friendly either. When we brush our teeth in front of the sink, we turn off the tap while brushing. In the shower, on the other hand, you leave the water running so you don’t get cold.

In other words, leave your toothbrush where it belongs – near the sink!
